"Religions Working Together"
Clean up at Camden Lock

Community group "Religions Working Together" carried out another clean-up on Sunday, 8th August, tackling rubbish, graffiti and unsightly posted stickers at Camden Lock.

The clean-up was accompanied by the UK's top jive and swing band, the turbo-charged Jive Aces, who drew a large crowd all around the lock, including some accomplished "Lindy Hop" dancers taking to the floor and showing how it's done.

Many hundreds of people were introduced to the idea of different faiths working together in the community, and the response was very positive, with many comments that this was a great idea.

Religions Working Together has members from many different religions, including Buddhism, Church of England, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Mount Zion 7th Church of God, Roman Catholic Church, Scientology, Sikhism and Zoroastrianism.

A leaflet was distributed to let people know about the group, which included the following quotes from different religions which are represented in the group. The quotes all reflect the concept of people working together and respecting each other.

"The best of men are those who are useful to others."
Hadith of Bukhari (Islam)

"You shall love your neighbour as yourself."
Leviticus 19.18 (Judaism and Christianity)

"Let all mankind be thy sect."
Adi Granth, Japuji 28, M.1, p. 6 (Sikhism)

"On the day that we can fully trust each other, there will be peace on earth."
